On 16th May 2014, the Government of Sri Lanka formalized its commitment to host and support the “Integrated Conference of Better Air Quality (BAQ) 2014 and Intergovernmental 8th Regional Environmentally Sustainable Transport (EST) Forum in Asia” that will be held in Colombo in November this year. Hon. Susil Premajayantha, Minister of Environment and Renewable Energy and Hon. Rohana Kumara Dissanayake, Deputy Minister of Transport were in Manila for the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the BAQ organizer, Clean Air Asia, represented by its Executive Director, Mr. Bjarne Pedersen.

Two International Conferences on sustainable transport and air quality in Colombo next year

The Eighth Regional Environmentally Sustainable Transport Forum and the Better Air Quality (BAQ) will be held in Colombo next year.  

Nearly 1,000 experts, from some 50 countries, will speak on Climate Change, Transportation issues and air pollution related issues, says BAQ Sri Lanka President and Naturalist Ruwan Weerasooriya.

Sri Lanka plans to host the Better Air Quality (BAQ) conference, Asia's leading event on air quality, in 2014.

A proposal to proceed with the planning to host the biennial conference put forward by the Environment Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa has been approved by the Cabinet.
